“Covid Wedding” has become a familiar moniker, a cheeky descriptor of marriage ceremonies taking place during the global pandemic & conjuring up images of micro weddings, save the (new) dates, & shortened guest lists. The quippy descriptor couldn’t possibly convey the depth of grief & disappointment a couple & their families can experience over a wedding day altered beyond all expectations — nor could it possibly anticipate the explosive joy & powerful testimony of a couple that chooses to celebrate & commit themselves to each other even so.
The day of Hannah & Logan’s wedding day, sadness & joy intermingled in ways that we’ll never forget. It was a perfectly sunny December day, brisk & sparkling & warmed through by the sun. Logan, an avid runner & coach at Furman, started the morning off on a run through Falls Park with some of his groomsmen & friends. Not far away, Hannah & her bridesmaids gathered, primped, & laughed together in an AirBnb loft downtown.
Throughout all of their planning, it looked like one of Logan’s brothers would not be able to attend the wedding. That morning, however, he showed up, to Hannah & Logan’s utter surprise & joy! Big emotions erupted in that moment, & continued to the rest of the day. We watched as their families & bridal party bolstered their bride & groom with support & love — holding them, laughing with them, wiping tears for them, & praying over them.
Guests arrived at the Gassaway Mansion, its solid columns draped with billowing linens, framed by stirring balsam trees & red & blush floral arrangements. Logan held his breath & awaited his bride at the steps of the old home as “The Blessing” & “Man of Your Word” declared truths about the faithfulness of God from the speakers. Bridesmaids in hunter green grinned big as they walked down the aisle, & an especially beloved flower girl elicited delighted giggles from everyone.
In a classic, A-line dress, long white gloves, & red lipstick, Hannah locked arms with her dad. They walked down the long, bending path, & tears flowed down Hannah’s cheeks. Logan beamed with absolute joy seeing his radiant bride. In the most tender & emotional ceremony we’ve ever been a part of, we watched as these two declared & demonstrated the very vows they were making: “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness & in health, to love & to cherish.” Their friends & family gathered around them to pray for them, & through tears & laughter, the two were declared the new Mr. & Mrs. Logan Roberts.
Afterward, Logan & Hannah took some time to just be alone together– to soak in everything that had happened that day & take refuge in each other. Logan’s strength & gentleness met Hannah’s vulnerability, & we got to watch as they honored each other even in their very first moments as husband & wife.
A large, light filled tent set up outside greeted the guests with the sweetest, most FUN reception filled with good food, drinks, & dancing! After they cut the cake, Hannah changed into a cocktail dress & metallic sneaks for the most fabulous reception bridal look. All was right in the world as she & Logan & all their guests danced their heart out on the dance floor. It was an absolute taste of heaven, where the veil between heaven & earth was thin. Hannah & Logan ran out of the reception that night through a tunnel of friends cheering & showering them with confetti flakes.
Logan & Hannah – The LORD loves you & your marriage is a picture of this covenantal love! He is writing HIS perfect story & He has brought you two together to further His kingdom. This is JUST the beginning of GREAT things to come!! We are in your corner & love you BOTH so much. All our love, The Rainsfords
