Evie & Matthew originally planned their wedding day as a large gathering of 250 of their favorite people, but like many of our couples this spring and summer, had to quickly shift to an alternate plan. They pared down their celebration into a wedding day’s most essential elements: family, close friends, worship, and their love for one another. What they sacrificed in volume they made up for in exponential joy!
Tall, white porches and undulating spanish moss cover DeBordieu, a beautiful, coastal community in Georgetown, South Carolina where Evie’s dad, an architect, has designed many houses. Evie & Matthew chose the backyard of one of his beautifully designed homes to marry in. It was an unseasonably mild June day, and the rhythmic, blustery coastal breeze seemed to dance through at all the right times. Coastal charm decorated everything, inspiring everything from the oyster shell tea lights Evie & her mom made for party favors to the shrimp and grits reception dinner later that night.
This wedding held a lot of special “first looks.” For Evie and Matthew’s, the two stood back to back at the tee box of the golf course’s tenth hole (Matthew’s favorite!) and exchanged letters they had written to one another. Matthew was visibly nervous, and just so ready to see his bride. Once they finally turned face each other, total ease took its place! Evie also did a first look with each of the men (her “three father figures”) in her immediate family– her dad, and her two older brothers. Her dad was literally speechless and each of her brothers cried tears of affection when they saw her for the first time!
Finally, under a flowered chuppah, and in front of their closest family and friends, Evie & Matthew said “I do! They spent the rest of the night dancing with all their friends and family (and we mean ALL– even Grandma Evelyn, Evie’s namesake!) under the string-light filled tent.
Evie & Matthew, what a blissful day! We know your wedding day didn’t go exactly how you had planned, but it was beautiful and sweet nonetheless. We admire your flexibility, and most of all, your love for one another! We’re so excited to watch you start your new adventure as husband and wife! Love, The Rainsfords
