On the day of Sam & Callie’s wedding, Callie wore a lace, cap-sleeved wedding gown, & a glint in her eyes that couldn’t help but spread across her entire face. All day her laugh rang out like church bells, her giddiness playing out in the form of nervous staccato movement. The stained glass windows at Arran Farm Chapel gleamed almost as brightly.

Callie wore so many heirloom pieces that day: her mom’s head piece that was sewn into her veil, her grandmother’s ring, her grandmother’s favorite perfume, & her grandmother’s bracelet. Summer pastels were all around — light blue bridesmaid dresses, faded pink roses, barely-purple anemones, & even Sam’s smart, blue-rimmed glasses. Across from the room where Callie & her girls were getting ready, Sam & the guys straightened their suspenders & blue floral ties. Sam couldn’t wait to see his bride!

The chapel doors swung wide to the sound of worship music, with Callie on her daddy’s arm, his affection & joy for his daughter so wildly evident. She walked down to her beaming groom, & Callie’s dad transitioned into the role of beloved ceremony officiant. The whole congregation joined together in singing, & just as they did, a perfectly-timed breeze cut through the heat. The refreshing presence of God felt tangible, as so many lifted their hands in worship. Callie & Sam took communion together, & Callie’s dad officially announced them as husband & wife!

All throughout the day, it was so clear how important each of their families are to them, & at the reception, we got to experience how much FUN they have together! After Sam & Callie’s sweet first dance, Callie & her dad performed a choreographed dance (and some singing!) to “Love is an Open Door” from Frozen! Then, Sam’s mom hopped on the dance floor, the two both tossed their shoes aside, & they danced the most fun, uninhibited mother-son dance. During the toasts, Sam’s mom pulled out a piece of paper to read something Sam had written when he was in middle school: “I, Sam Maurer, pledge to never get married, & if I break this promise, I will take my mom on an all-expense-paid shopping spree!” Sam’s mom asked if the guests would keep Sam accountable to the pledge he made all those years ago, & toasted to Sam & Callie, saying “Here’s to my shopping spree!” The room was in tears  & everyone was laughing so hard.

At the end of the night, Sam surprised Callie with their first adventure as a married couple– a honeymoon in Boone!

Sam & Callie, you two are as true as it gets – sincere, full of joy, Godly, compassionate, & full of love for others! It was such an honor to be with you as you start your new lifelong adventure together! Love, The Rainsfords
