It’s been a dream of ours for years to teach other photographers how we prepare & photograph a wedding day!! When we talk with other photographers who are just stepping into the business, we noticed that everyone has a common response when we asked how they were feeling about photographing a wedding day – “I am excited for everything except ____ & _____.”
It’s completely normal to feel nervous, but we noticed that lots of photographers were lacking CONFIDENCE!! We wanted to host a space that was for ALL photographers – beginning & advanced, so we could talk through each part of the day starting with the heart, moving to the preparation, & then the skill to feel confident through each portion of the day.
Day one was filled with business fundamentals & how to identify your ideal client followed by teaching & practicing photographing details. We spent time with FoxGlove Florals as she educated us on how to look at floral arrangements & the bridal bouquet. This time was super valuable for us as photographers because often on a wedding day, we are going SO fast, that we don’t often STOP & look at what we are photographing. Listening to Lizz explain how she styles & sets up her pieces was very clarifying to us!
Day two started early with our attendees coming back to work on lay flats & details in the bridal suite then we dove right in to talk about the heart, prep & skill for posing your bride & groom, bridal party, & photographing a wedding ceremony. We had the sweetest bride & groom along with some of their bridal party who joined us so we could coach & practice without the stress of a timeline (it goes so fast on a wedding day!!).
We enjoyed lunch together then dove back into our content: photographing the bride & groom’s families, reception & off camera flash (QUE all the fears!!), what actions we take the night of the wedding, & finally -how to love & work with other vendors so they are your advocates & biggest referrals!
It was such a gift to meet & spend the weekend with sweetest wedding photographers!! Meeting each attendee & hearing their heart behind their business was truly one of the greatest gifts from the whole weekend.
